Taquiela Wright of Delisa Rose Luxury Lingerie to Debut “The Garden of Delisa” at New York Fashion Week
New York, New York, USA, August 16th, 2026, FinanceWire
After a Glaucoma Diagnosis Nearly Threatened Her Vision, the Engineer-Turned Luxury Lingerie Designer Turns Adversity Into Her New York Fashion Week Comeback.
Delisa Rose Luxury Lingerie, the Black-owned luxury fashion brand founded by engineer-turned-designer, Taquiela Wright, will debut its Spring/Summer collection, “The Garden of Delisa,” during New York Fashion Week on September 13, marking the brand’s latest step in positioning luxury lingerie beyond traditional intimate apparel and within the broader high-fashion market.
Presented in partnership with Flying Solo, the eight-look collection will debut at The Rooftop at Vanderbilt Building, 355 Madison Avenue in New York City, introducing couture-inspired bodysuits and corsets that combine lingerie construction with sculptural detailing and runway-focused design.
For Wright, the runway represents both a business and creative evolution for Delisa Rose. After spending more than two decades in engineering before transitioning into fashion entrepreneurship, Wright has applied an engineer’s approach to precision, structure, geometry and problem-solving to the development of the brand.

From Intimate Apparel to Wearable Luxury
“The Garden of Delisa” represents the next phase of that vision. The collection’s eight couture-inspired bodysuits and corsets are constructed from satin foundations layered with embroidered lace and hand-sculpted organza petals.
Rather than concealing lingerie beneath a finished look, Wright places corsets and bodysuits at the center, merging intimate apparel with sculptural construction, craftsmanship and couture-inspired presentation.
The collection incorporates earth-inspired shades of green, burgundy, coral and neutral tones alongside floral embroidery, vines and dimensional organza flowers. The contrast between romantic femininity and architectural construction reflects Wright’s dual identity as both engineer and designer.

Turning Personal Adversity Into a Brand’s Next Chapter
Behind Delisa Rose’s evolution is a deeply personal turning point. Following unexpected health complications and extensive medical evaluations, Wright was diagnosed with glaucoma and later experienced a biliary obstruction. The experience became one of the most physically and emotionally challenging periods of her life and forced her to reconsider her personal vision, creative purpose and the direction of the company she had built.
Instead of separating the experience from her work, Wright incorporated it into the development of her newest collection.
“Being diagnosed with glaucoma forced me to think about vision in an entirely different way; not just my physical sight, but the vision I had for my life,” Wright said. “There were moments when I felt like everything around me was changing, but creating The Garden of Delisa reminded me that difficult seasons don’t mean your story is over. A garden has to go through different seasons before it blooms, and so do we.”
That experience became the foundation for “The Garden of Delisa,” which uses the natural evolution of a garden as a metaphor for resilience, transformation and rebuilding.
Engineering a Fashion Story
The collection is structured as a visual narrative told through eight looks and two emotional chapters. Inspired by flourishing gardens, butterflies, flowers and nature’s ability to regenerate, the collection progresses from uncertainty and transition toward confidence, renewal and personal awakening.
Signature designs including “Blooming,” “Garden Awaken” and “Vertical Edge” represent different stages of that evolution. Structure and precision remain central to the garments, while sculptural florals and delicate lace introduce softness and movement.
The result is a collection positioned at the intersection of engineering, luxury fashion and intimate apparel.
Building a Black-Owned Brand in Luxury
Wright’s September runway show also represents another step in the visibility of a Black woman-owned independent luxury brand. Her unconventional transition from a more than 20-year engineering career into entrepreneurship demonstrates how technical expertise can translate into creative enterprise.
Previously featured in Harper’s Bazaar China, ELLE Slovenia, Fashion Bomb Daily, MadameNoire and Houston Style Magazine, Wright enters New York Fashion Week with increased visibility and a collection designed to signal Delisa Rose’s next chapter.
With “The Garden of Delisa,” Wright is making the case for a broader definition of luxury lingerie, one in which intimate apparel can occupy the same conversation as art, craftsmanship and high fashion.
