RemitBee Announces Sub-1% Total Cost for Money Transfers to India

TORONTO, CA, September 10th, 2026, FinanceWire

RemitBee Announces Money Transfers to India from Canada at a Total Cost Below 1% on Transfers of $500 or More, Including Transfer Fees and Exchange-Rate Margin.

That number sits against a benchmark most banks struggle to beat. The World Bank counts the fee and the currency margin together when it prices a corridor, and by that count the global average for sending $200 runs 6.36%.

Digital services did better in the third quarter of 2025 at 4.59%, though both figures stay well above the 3% ceiling the United Nations set for 2030 under Sustainable Development Goal 10.c. RemitBee's published pricing clears it.

Canada's Busiest Remittance Route

As per Statistics Canada, Canadians sent around $26.7 billion in remittances across borders in 2025. India had the largest single share of that entire amount, and it receives more in remittances than any other country in the world.

For plenty of families here, money transfer is not an occasional activity. It is a repetitive action that happens almost every month, which is why the cost is very important, even more than speed (in most cases).

The Math Behind the Money

There are two charges that apply to transfers to India, and RemitBee publishes both of them.

The first is…transfers of $500 Canadian or more cost almost nothing to send when a customer is funding them via e-transfer, EFT, or bill payment.

However, if the amount is lower than $500, then the fee across those same three methods is around a flat $2.99. The first transfer is free, no matter the amount. Debit card payments work on a separate scale and become more expensive as the transfer grows in amount.

On the currency side, RemitBee applies 0.3% to 0.5% above the mid-market rate, depending on where the money is going. The platform shows the rate before anyone confirms a transaction.

So, the mathematics of a $1,000 transfer funded via e-transfer is pretty easy to follow. Nothing gets charged as a fee, so the margin is part of the entire cost, which, at 0.3%, works out to around $3 — beating the typical bank spreads on the same corridor at 3% to 4%. At 3%, that same $1,000 would cost about $30 instead.

“People compare fees, and I can understand why, because the fee is the number that everybody likes to advertise,” said Manos Yoganathan, co-founder and chief operating officer of RemitBee. ““The margin is the half nobody shows. It decides how many rupees actually land in the recipient’s account, so we put it on the page. That’s how customers get complete transparency.”

Funding Time and Delivery Time are not the Same

RemitBee reports funding time and delivery time separately because combining them may give customers the wrong idea about when their money arrives.

So, for example, debit card payments fund a transfer almost immediately. Meanwhile, e-transfer funding clears in around 15 minutes, bill payment takes a business day, and EFT takes one to two days.

Delivery starts when funding is cleared. Supported Indian bank accounts receive the money within 24 hours, while transfers to a recipient’s UPI ID land instantly.

Network and Regulation

RemitBee serves 350,000-plus users across 190 countries, and it deals in 150 currencies plus 200 distinct payment systems.

In May 2026, the company added Visa Direct through a collaboration with Visa Canada, opening real-time payouts to eligible bank accounts, digital wallets, and Visa cards.

RemitBee Incorporated is also registered with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as a money services business. It operates under the anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing requirements laid down by the Government of Canada.

If funds fail to reach the intended recipient, the company offers a 100% money-back guarantee — refunding the transaction amount plus all associated fees under the terms of its Transaction Guarantee policy.
