Qiu receives three individual honors, while Globevisa's legal and compliance team is recognized for its legal innovation work.

SINGAPORE, November 05, 2026 (EZ Newswire) -- Globevisa Group's Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, Jun Qiu, and the group's legal and compliance team received four honours at the 2026 LexisNexis Awards ceremony in Hong Kong on October 29, including three individual awards for Qiu and one team award.

Qiu was named to the LexisNexis® 40 Under 40 Asia List and the 40 Under 40 Chinese Mainland List, and received the ELITE Award — Individual. The Globevisa legal and compliance team, led by Qiu, received the ELITE Award — Team.

According to a notification from the LexisNexis Awards team, this was the first time in the awards' history that a candidate had received recognition across all four categories: the Asia List, the Chinese Mainland List, ELITE — Individual and ELITE — Team.

The 40 Under 40 programme recognises legal professionals aged 40 or younger for their professional achievements, leadership and contributions to the legal field. The ELITE Awards recognise individuals and teams for work in legal innovation, technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and professional ethics.

Qiu holds a Juris Doctor degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law and a master's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She holds China's legal professional qualification, is admitted to practise law in New York and Illinois, and is a licensed U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She has also passed all examinations of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Before joining Globevisa, she worked at the Chicago headquarters of Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. At Globevisa, her responsibilities include the group's legal, compliance and risk management functions across its international operations.

Legal review in cross-border residence and citizenship planning

Immigration policies and application requirements vary across jurisdictions and may change over time. For individuals considering residence or citizenship programmes, these changes can affect eligibility, investment conditions, source-of-funds requirements and the documentation needed for an application.

Globevisa's legal and compliance team monitors policy developments and reviews the legal basis, eligibility criteria and compliance requirements of the programmes considered by the group. The team also assesses how regulatory changes may affect programme conditions and application procedures, providing guidance to business teams when they prepare options for prospective clients.

The assessment considers whether programme requirements correspond with an applicant's circumstances, including relevant eligibility conditions and documentation requirements. By identifying potential restrictions and policy-related issues before a proposal is presented, the team helps business colleagues assess the suitability of available programmes and reduce risks associated with misunderstandings of policy requirements or discrepancies between eligibility criteria and an applicant's circumstances.

"Legal and compliance review needs to begin before a proposal is developed for a client," Qiu said. "This involves examining the latest policy requirements, the legal basis of a programme and its specific eligibility conditions, then providing guidance to our business teams so that clients can make decisions with a clearer understanding of the requirements and potential risks."

Financial and regulatory considerations across jurisdictions

Cross-border residence and citizenship planning may also involve financial and regulatory matters beyond the immigration application itself. These include anti-money laundering (AML) requirements, source-of-funds checks, tax residency rules, the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) for the automatic exchange of financial account information, and data protection requirements in different jurisdictions.

Obtaining residence rights or citizenship in one jurisdiction does not, by itself, determine an individual's tax residency or remove reporting obligations elsewhere. Tax residency is determined under the domestic laws of the relevant jurisdictions, and an individual may be considered a tax resident in more than one jurisdiction depending on the applicable rules and personal circumstances.

For clients, these considerations may affect financial account reporting, the documentation required to establish the source of funds and the coordination of arrangements across jurisdictions. Globevisa's legal and compliance team reviews relevant programme requirements and identifies issues that may need to be considered as part of the broader planning process. Tax residency and reporting matters must be assessed in light of the applicable laws and each individual's circumstances.

Alongside its policy and programme reviews, Globevisa also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to assist with preliminary contract reviews and the organisation of internal legal knowledge. The group said these tools support information processing and initial assessments, while substantive legal interpretations and decisions remain the responsibility of legal professionals.
