Derichebourg and LG Energy Solution establish a strategic
French Korean partnership to create a Battery Recycling Joint Venture
• An ambitious project with strong environmental added value, enhancing value for the client in the recycling sector and industrial sovereignty over critical raw materials
• A state-of-the-art industrial entity, aligned with circular economy and closed-loop strategy, will provide a recycling capacity of over 20,000 tons per year.
• The building of the installation will begin in 2026, once regulatory approvals have been satisfied, with commissioning scheduled for 2027.
Paris, France, Seoul, South Korea, April 28, 2025 – 18h00 CEST – Derichebourg Group
(ISIN: FR000053381, Mnémo: DBG), French leader in metal recycling, and LG Energy Solution (KRX: 373220), one of the world’s leading electric vehicle battery manufacturers, have announced the creation of a strategic joint venture dedicated to the recycling of electric vehicle batteries.
The plant will be located in Bruyères-sur Oise, in the northern part of the Paris region. This new industrial entity will have a recycling capacity of over 20,000 tons per year and will be equipped with the most promising technologies. One of its missions will be to recycle production scrap from LG Energy Solution’s facility in Poland, in a circular economy approach that also strengthens industrial sovereignty over critical raw materials.
The success of this project is based on the Derichebourg’s collecting network as well as its expertise in metal recycling, combined with LG Energy Solution’s knowledge of the complete electric battery value chain.
“This collaboration enables us to secure a stable and cost-competitive supply of recycled battery materials from the advanced processing of end-of-life batteries and battery scrap,” said Chang Beom Kang, CSO of LG Energy Solution. “This initiative will also significantly enhance the value we deliver to customers in the recycling sector.”
This partnership is fully aligned with a circular economy and closed-loop strategy, promoting the reintegration of recycled materials into the battery value chain and using Derichebourg group’s strong expertise in recycling metals and plastics for the part of from battery dismantling. This
reduces the need for primary raw materials and lowers the carbon footprint related to transport and sourcing. Considering the EU Battery Regulation, which requires a minimum level of recycled content in batteries sold in Europe starting in 2031, this partnership will also effectively address upcoming regulatory requirements. In addition, the collaboration aims to support car manufacturers seeking to establish a closed-loop battery recycling system, further promoting material circularity, fully aligned with the target of the new European Clean Industrial Deal[1].
Born from the collaboration of two key players committed to the energy transition and sustainable resource recovery, this joint venture reflects a shared vision of a more resilient, ethical, and competitive European battery industry.
“This partnership fully supports our ambition to develop industrial solutions with a high environmental added value, while strengthening the local roots of our activities,” said Abderrahmane El Aoufir, CEO of Derichebourg.
Installation work will begin in 2026, once regulatory approvals have been satisfied, with commissioning scheduled for 2027. The industrial plant will be integrated into a local ecosystem of innovation and sustainable development. The joint venture will also benefit the local community by creating green jobs and boosting the regional economy.
