ZPMC Ships World's Largest Offshore Converter Station

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) has dispatched the Haifeng Heart offshore converter station from Nantong, Jiangsu to waters off Yangjiang, Guangdong for installation. As the largest of its kind, this converter station aims to generate 6 billion kWh of renewable electricity annually once operational. It will bolster China’s offshore wind power and decarbonization efforts.

The project serves the Three Gorges Yangjiang Qingzhou offshore wind farms, featuring six groundbreaking engineering accomplishments. These include the largest single-unit capacity at 2,000 MW, the highest voltage at ±500 kV, and the first combination of AC and DC transmission. Haifeng Heart also employs ±525 kV DC subsea cables, critical in high-voltage settings.

Constructed using modular fabrication, this 25,000-ton station showcases ZPMC’s efficient "onshore assembly, single-unit transport, and float-over installation." It exemplifies advanced methods in offshore wind energy projects, promising increased reach to remote high-quality wind resources.
