Younger Employees Open about Salaries, Hesitant in Negotiations
According to recent studies by The Stepstone Group, younger employees are more open about discussing their salaries compared to older colleagues. Statistics reveal that 74% of individuals under 30 talk transparently about their earnings, while less than half of over-30s do so. Despite this openness, salary negotiations remain a challenge for the younger demographic.
Six out of ten under-30s feel uneasy during salary discussions. A major reason cited is the inability to convincingly justify salary demands, with 43% of the younger group experiencing this compared to 33% of older employees. Additionally, 42% fear being perceived as ungrateful by superiors during negotiations.
However, thorough preparation aids in building confidence. Around 40% of young employees research salary ranges beforehand. Utilizing online tools like salary calculators proves beneficial, though social media is deemed less useful by many.
