Yomo Secures Initial Banking Licence to Spearhead Digital Banking in Egypt

CIB-backed digital banking platform Yomo has received preliminary approval from the Central Bank of Egypt to establish a digital bank. This approval aligns with Egypt's digital banks' framework introduced in 2023, marking a significant step in the evolution of Egypt's banking sector toward simplicity, accessibility, and empowerment for millions of Egyptians.

Yomo, designed as a digitally native bank, aims to merge CIB's trust with the swift and intuitive nature of modern digital banking. The approval allows Yomo to advance towards operational and technological readiness before launching its services, contingent on further regulatory approval.

CIB's Group CEO, Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, emphasized the commercial opportunities Yomo's launch provides to shareholders, aligning with CIB's five-year strategy. New CEO Rashwan Hammady hailed the licence as a milestone, outlining plans for a bank that enhances financial control for users.
