Wings for Life World Run 2026 Achieves Record Fundraising
The Wings for Life World Run 2026 garnered a record €9.2 million for spinal cord injury research. On May 11, 346,527 participants from 192 nationalities joined the event, spanning 173 countries. This 13th edition ran simultaneously through seven Flagship Runs, 648 App Run Events, and via the Wings for Life World Run App. The entirety of the collected funds is allocated to the Wings for Life Foundation, committed to discovering a cure for spinal cord injuries.
The foundation, since its inception in 2004, has supported 344 research initiatives globally, currently backing 72 active projects in 15 countries. Notable achievements include Jo Fukuda from Japan setting a men's world record and Mikky Keetels from Netherlands setting a women's record. Participants collectively covered over 2.8 million kilometers.
The event uniquely adopts a Catcher Car format, promoting inclusivity across various skill levels. Spinal cord research remains significantly under-resourced, enhancing the importance of this funding model. The support emphasizes global solidarity towards advancing new therapeutic solutions.
