CA$15 million in aid for Waga Energy and its biomethane project in Quebec
Waga Energy has received 15 million Canadian dollars (approximately 9.25 million euros) in funding from Quebec's Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy to develop a biomethane project in Hébertville-Station. This initiative is part of the 2030 Green Economy Plan, which aims to integrate 10% biomethane into the gas network by 2030.
The funding will help build a biomethane production unit at the Hébertville-Station waste storage site, in collaboration with the Lac-Saint-Jean Waste Management Board. The facility is expected to produce approximately 55 GWh of biomethane per year, enough to power some 2,900 homes, thus reducing the region's carbon footprint.
The project, utilizing Waga Energy's WAGABOX® technology, aims to transform biogas from the site's waste, previously burned, into a renewable energy source. This is the company's fifth project in Canada, reinforcing its commitment to the energy transition.
