German State Grants Royalty Exemption for Lithium Production
The State of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany has granted Vulcan Energy Resources Limited a royalty exemption for lithium production. This exemption aims to ensure a stable supply of lithium until domestic capacities are established. The exemption is valid for five years, until December 31, 2030, with a review scheduled one year before its expiration. Vulcan's Lionheart Project, an upstream lithium and geothermal energy production facility under construction in the state, stands to benefit significantly from this decision.
This exemption follows a similar 2009 exemption for geothermal production and underlines the German government's support for domestic production of critical materials. The Lionheart Project aims to produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide monohydrate annually and generate renewable energy as a by-product. The exemption is designed to foster local production of essential raw materials vital for Germany and Europe's industrial supply chains.
