Vonovia Initiates Sustainable Modernisation of 74 Apartments
Vonovia SE has embarked on a project to modernise 74 apartments in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, using prefabricated timber elements. These components are made from eco-friendly wood, enhancing energy efficiency and achieving carbon neutrality. The renovation targets 13 buildings from 1975, initially rated energy efficiency classes F to G, to upgrade them to class A.
CEO Rolf Buch emphasised the use of sustainable materials and modular construction to quicken the process, aligning with their climate goals while maintaining affordable rents. The renovation employs locally sourced materials and partners, with wood modules assembled by Allgäu-based Baufritz. Innovative features include triple-glazed windows, integrated ventilation, and a photovoltaic system on the roof.
Existing gas heaters are replaced with wood pellet systems due to regional climate needs, further reducing energy requirements. The project is notable for its rapid execution, with prefabricated elements for each section installed in merely two days.
