Vogenx Launches Phase 2b Trial for Mizagliflozin to Address Post-Bariatric Hypoglycemia
Vogenx, Inc. has begun the EMERGE Phase 2b clinical trial of mizagliflozin for treating post-bariatric hypoglycemia (PBH), a condition lacking FDA-approved treatments. The trial involves around 36 adults who underwent bariatric surgery over a year ago and face recurrent hypoglycemia. Participants will be randomly assigned mizagliflozin or placebo over 28 days, focusing on reducing hypoglycemic events.
Mizagliflozin targets glucose absorption in the small intestine, addressing insulin response issues that lead to hypoglycemia. Previously tested in over 500 subjects, mizagliflozin has shown promise in reducing hypoglycemic events. The trial will span approximately 10 U.S. sites, offering hope for those with PBH.
