Viromed Medical AG Successfully Completes Study on Cold Plasma in Lungs

Viromed Medical AG, a leader in cold plasma technology, has finalized its extensive study on the application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in the lungs. This research specifically addressed ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), a pressing issue in intensive care. Results indicate CAP's promise as a non-pharmacological treatment for severe lung infections. Data showcased a defined therapeutic safety window and complete eradication of harmful germs in lung models.

Collaborating with Saarland University and Hannover Medical School, Viromed validated the technology using isolated lungs, mirroring real human lung characteristics. This study's success marks a significant step forward for Viromed and modern pneumology, as noted by management board member Uwe Perbandt.

Based on these findings, Viromed's technology has been applied in real clinical settings, notably assisting a complex lung transplant case with promising outcomes. The company envisions CAP technology substantially transforming pneumology, offering alternatives to traditional drug therapies limited by resistance issues. Other potential intensive care applications are under exploration.
