US FDA Grants NanoViricides' NV-387 "Rare Pediatric Disease Drug" Designation for Measles

NanoViricides, a company focused on developing broad-spectrum antivirals, announced its drug NV-387 has received the US FDA's "Rare Pediatric Disease Drug" designation for treating measles. This designation could allow NanoViricides to obtain a Priority Review Voucher (PRV) if the drug meets all conditions in a successful marketing application.

This development offers NanoViricides the potential to expedite reviews for other drug applications, or sell the PRV to another company, potentially generating significant revenue. Such vouchers have been sold for amounts as high as $195 million.

NanoViricides' NV-387 has demonstrated strong in vivo activity against the measles virus in animal studies. The absence of an approved measles treatment underscores the importance of this development. Measles cases have been increasing globally, further highlighting the need for effective treatments.
