Roma Tor Vergata University Raises Awareness on World Diabetes Day

The University of Roma Tor Vergata will illuminate its Rectorate building from November 10 to 18, marking World Diabetes Day on November 14. This initiative by the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases aims to raise awareness about diabetes and promote prevention.

World Diabetes Day, celebrated since 1991, honors Frederick Banting, the discoverer of insulin. Diabetes mellitus is the first non-transmissible pandemic recognized by the UN. Through this symbolism, the university emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and social awareness to combat this epidemic.

Professor Davide Lauro, spearheading the event, underscores the need for research and community awareness to reduce diabetes risks. Approximately 6% of Italy's population, over 3.5 million people, are affected by diabetes, a condition that significantly impacts public health.
