UEG Manifesto Advocates for Patient Involvement in Digestive Health Policy
On November 19, 2025, United European Gastroenterology (UEG) unveiled its Digestive Health Roundtable Manifesto 2025. Launched at the European Cancer Summit, the manifesto emphasizes the importance of including patient perspectives in digestive health policy. Developed through collaboration with patient associations, it calls for patients to be active contributors rather than passive recipients.
The manifesto is a response to Europe's mounting digestive health challenges. Digestive diseases remain significant causes of death and disability. Professor Patrizia Burra of UEG highlighted the need for a partnership culture that uses patient experiences to influence research and policy.
Three focal areas include improving digestive cancer care, standardizing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and promoting patient involvement in clinical trials. UEG encourages European policymakers to embrace patient collaboration, unified PROMs frameworks, and coordinated advocacy to enhance digestive health outcomes.
