Thyssenkrupp nucera Sets Up First Electrolyzer Cell Assembly Hub in Europe

Thyssenkrupp nucera is establishing its inaugural company-operated assembly hub for electrolyzer cells in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. This initiative bolsters its European operations and enhances cell assembly by embracing semi-automated processes. The centralized hub aims to expedite cell assembly and boost output, compared to decentralized manual assembly.

The project marks a significant investment in Europe, with thyssenkrupp nucera committing between EUR 10 million and EUR 14 million. Additionally, the Portuguese government is supporting the project with EUR 3.7 million. The hub, set to start operations in 2028, will simplify processes for customers, reducing the need for their own infrastructure and offering ready-to-install packages.

Currently, assembly occurs in customer-operated workshops, but the new hub aims to streamline the process, cut lead times, and address higher capacity demands by leveraging its automated production structure.
