Stepstone Group Announces Leadership Change: Schmalzl to Succeed Dettmers as CEO
The Stepstone Group has announced a leadership transition. Dr. Sebastian Dettmers, after 15 years with the company and over six years as CEO, will hand over the reins to Christian Schmalzl, effective September 1, 2026. Dettmers will remain in charge through the summer to ensure a smooth transition.
Dettmers, who joined Stepstone in 2011, has played a key role in transforming the company from a European job board into a leading HR technology group with operations in Europe and the US. Christian Schmalzl, formerly Co-CEO of Ströer, is set to bring his expertise in digital platform scaling and organizational leadership to Stepstone.
Dettmers expressed gratitude to his team and partners, including Axel Springer, KKR, and CPPIB, for their support. He is confident in Schmalzl's ability to lead the company into its next chapter.
