The Royal Mint Launches Freddie Mercury Collectible Coin
The Royal Mint, based in Llantrisant, Wales, has launched a UK coin to honor iconic musician Freddie Mercury. This collectible coin showcases Mercury in a dynamic stage performance, capturing the energy and passion that defined his career. The coin design includes Mercury's signature and elements that highlight his vocal range, such as a musical stave and a depiction of his Live Aid outfit.
The launch coincides with the 40th anniversary of Queen's memorable Live Aid performance and Freddie's solo album "Mr. Bad Guy." Mercury's sister, Kashmira Bulsara, struck the first coin, enhancing this tribute's personal significance. The Royal Mint aims to celebrate Mercury's influence on British music and culture.
Part of the Music Legends series, this coin follows tributes to other music greats like David Bowie. A unique gold proof coin will be auctioned for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, supporting HIV and AIDS initiatives. The coin collection is available starting at £18.50.
