Global Dialogue on Digital Platform Work Opens in Singapore

The Global Dialogue on Digital Platform Work has commenced in Singapore, gathering over 150 participants from more than 20 countries. Hosted by Singapore's Ministry of Manpower and the International Labour Organization, the event aims to close data gaps and foster international standards in digital platform employment (DPE). This is crucial for developing policies that ensure worker protection and economic growth.

Digital platform work is growing rapidly but lacks comprehensive labor force data. The diverse nature of these jobs, ranging from transport to professional services, complicates accurate measurement. Without standardized data, policies may inadequately address worker rights.

Singapore has been proactive, conducting annual surveys since 2016, leading to the Platforms Workers Act. The act was influenced by a collaboration between unions, employers, and government to enhance worker protection. The Global Dialogue seeks to establish uniform statistical methods, pivotal for international labor comparisons and future policy development.
