European Space Industry Collaboration: Airbus, Leonardo, and Thales Unite
On October 23, 2025, aerospace giants Airbus, Leonardo, and Thales announced a Memorandum of Understanding to combine their space-related activities. This agreement aims to create a new European space company, enhancing capabilities in satellite and space systems manufacturing and services.
The collaboration seeks to bolster Europe's role in the global space market, strengthening strategic autonomy and competitiveness. The planned company, expected to be operational by 2027, anticipates mid triple-digit million euro synergies annually, fostering innovation and expanding market reach.
Contributions to the new entity include Airbus's Space Systems, Leonardo's Space Division, and Thales's shares in Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio. Each parent company will hold a significant stake, ensuring balanced governance and a strong global presence.
