Thailand's LTR Visa: A Boost to the Economy with 12,000 Approvals
In a span of four years, Thailand's Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa has attracted 12,010 skilled foreigners, contributing approximately USD 1.28 billion to the economy, according to the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI). Launched in September 2022, this visa aims to draw executives and experts for future industries, bolstering economic activity and domestic spending.
The program yields an average of USD 107,000 per recipient, encompassing visa fees, spending, and tax revenues. It positions Thailand as a competitive hub for global talent, particularly in advanced technology sectors such as AI, robotics, and biotechnology.
Most visa recipients hail from the U.S., Japan, and the U.K., with Japanese professionals significantly involved in Thailand's automotive and electronics sectors. Approved applicants fall into five categories, including Highly-Skilled and Work-from-Thailand Professionals.
To streamline operations and manage increasing demand, a digital processing portal was introduced, linking four government bodies. This move enhances administrative efficiency and supports Thailand's strategic goal to attract international talent and drive technological transformation.
