Synnovis and Apian Enhance Healthcare Logistics with Drones

Synnovis and Apian have announced a strategic partnership to advance the use of drones and autonomous robotics in healthcare logistics, particularly pathology. This collaboration follows a successful pilot project initiated in 2024, delivering over 6,000 pathology samples between Synnovis labs in London. The drones, noted for their zero-emission flights, drastically reduced transport time from over 30 minutes by road to under two minutes.

This autumn, the partnership will see an expansion in drone logistics, with Matternet drones being used to transfer urgent samples in London. One significant advancement includes transporting bone marrow samples crucial for diagnosing and monitoring blood disorders, impacting care at facilities like Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

Professor Dominic Harrington emphasized the importance of efficient logistics in supporting cutting-edge diagnostics. This partnership positions Synnovis at the forefront of logistics, with future plans to extend drone routes to additional customers.
