Study Reveals Misleading Claims in Viral Korean Skincare TikTok Videos

A recent study presented at the EADV Congress 2026 highlights that nearly 95% of viral TikTok videos on Korean skincare and 'glass skin' contain misleading claims. The research underscored the absence of basic safety information, posing potential risks to users.

The study focused on TikTok content promoting the popular skincare goal of 'glass skin'—clear and hydrated skin. Researchers assessed 38 videos for accuracy and reliability. Findings showed that while these videos are popular, they often lack essential safety guidance.

Specifically, 84% of videos failed to consider different skin types, while 45% promoted excessive ingredient combinations without safety advice. A surprising 32% promised instant results, and basic safety risks like irritation were mostly unmentioned.

The videos evaluated were largely created by non-professionals. The study concludes there's a significant gap in content quality and calls for skepticism regarding promises of instant skincare results.
