SMX Achieves Breakthrough in Cotton Traceability

SMX (Security Matters) PLC has announced a successful industrial pilot demonstrating its ability to provide full-chain traceability for cotton. By using molecular markers during the recycling process, SMX confirmed that these markers remain detectable through various stages, from fibre mixing to the final textile product.

This advancement addresses significant challenges in apparel supply chains by offering a scientific method to authenticate material origin and recycled content. The markers survived processes like spinning, carding, and blending, proving their stability and traceability across textile operations.

This development helps brands, regulators, and manufacturers meet ESG and Digital Product Passport requirements. SMX believes its technology provides a new standard for evidence-based sustainability and trade compliance. The technology could enable preferential tariffs and enhanced market access for sustainability-certified goods.
