Shanghai Electric Powers World's Largest Compressed Air Storage Station in Jiangsu
Shanghai Electric has announced the successful commissioning of the Huai'an Salt Cavern Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) project in Jiangsu, China. This station is now the largest of its kind globally, featuring a total installed capacity of 600 MW and 2,400 MWh of storage. Key components provided by Shanghai Electric include air turbine units, generators, and advanced thermal storage systems.
The project employs pioneering "molten salt + pressurized thermal water" technology, enabling energy storage and generation without fossil fuel use. This innovation promises significant low-carbon benefits, with expected annual savings of 250,000 tons of standard coal and a reduction of 600,000 tons in CO₂ emissions.
The project's milestone supports China's strategic energy transition and sets a benchmark for CAES technology worldwide. The initiative underscores Shanghai Electric's engineering capabilities and commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
