Shanghai and Hamburg Celebrate 40-Year Partnership

As Shanghai and Hamburg commemorate four decades of partnership, both cities aim to enhance cooperation in sectors such as green shipping, smart ports, technological innovation, and urban resilience. Additionally, they plan to boost cultural exchanges and tourism.

On October 15 and 16, Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher visited Shanghai, leading a delegation to commemorate this milestone. Both cities are key economic centers and have collaborated extensively over the years in trade, science, technology, and cultural exchanges.

A notable initiative is the development of a green shipping corridor to enhance maritime transport efficiency. A climate science laboratory was also inaugurated by Hamburg University of Technology in partnership with Feishu China.

Direct flights between the cities are proposed to strengthen business and tourism. The visit included interactions with students participating in exchange programs, highlighting the people-to-people aspect of the relationship.
