SGL Carbon and X-energy Expand Nuclear Graphite Capacity

SGL Carbon and X-energy have agreed to double SGL's capacity for producing nuclear-grade graphite. This expansion supports X-energy's Xe-100 reactor's supply chain by boosting the production of graphite billets crucial for its operation.

The agreement includes X-energy investing up to $8 million in upgrades at SGL's Chedde, France site. This aims to enable the production of billets for up to eight new reactors annually. Additionally, U.S. capacity for machining these billets into graphite blocks will also increase, enhancing supply chain reliability.

Full implementation seeks to double European manufacturing capacity for NBG-18 by 2030. This capacity increase is part of a broader strategy stemming from a 10-year agreement initiated in January 2026, marking a significant investment in SGL's future growth and stability in nuclear-grade graphite production.
