Sartorius to Acquire MatTek from BICO AB
Sartorius, a life science group based in Göttingen, Germany, has entered into an agreement to acquire MatTek Corp from the Swedish company BICO Group AB. MatTek specializes in developing 3D microtissue models. This acquisition, valued at 80 million US dollars, aims to enhance Sartorius’ cell culture offerings.
The integration of MatTek into Sartorius' Lab Products & Services division will complement its cell analysis instruments and AI models. MatTek, which employs over 80 people, generated revenues exceeding 20 million US dollars in 2024. The acquisition is subject to customary approvals and is expected to conclude in Q2 2025.
This move is anticipated to accelerate drug development while reducing reliance on animal testing through MatTek’s advanced 3D models and digital pathology expertise.
