Sartorius Enhances Climate Targets with SBTi Validation
Sartorius, a prominent life science group, has refined its climate goals, receiving validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The new greenhouse gas reduction objectives align with the Paris Climate Agreement, reflecting a commitment to science-based targets. Sartorius CEO Dr. Michael Grosse emphasized the transition to renewable energy and eco-design practices to reduce emissions and support clients' sustainability goals.
The company targets a 42% reduction in Scopes 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 2030 from a 2022 baseline, surpassing the 95% coverage requirement by SBTi. Sartorius is also focused on decarbonizing its supply chain, aiming for a 51.6% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030. The long-term goal is net-zero emissions by 2045 through elimination and offsetting of emissions.
