QNX, a division of BlackBerry, announced the integration of its Software Development Platform (SDP) 8.0 as the foundational operating system for the Eclipse Foundation's Safe Open Vehicle Core (S-CORE) Project. This initiative aims to accelerate the development timelines and reduce costs of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) by providing a common, safety-critical software platform. The S-CORE project unites major automakers and technology partners, including BMW and Mercedes-Benz, to develop an open-source core stack for SDVs.

The project's first release, S-CORE v0.5, will offer core functionalities like application orchestration and inter-process communication. QNX SDP 8.0 supports this with its robust platform, part of the QNX Everywhere initiative, which offers free access to the software for non-commercial use. This move enables students, schools, and OEMs to prototype advanced automotive technologies.

John Wall, COO of QNX, emphasized that the project aligns with QNX's reputation in the automotive sector, facilitating easier access to high-performance operating systems. With industry collaboration, S-CORE fosters faster and more efficient innovation from development to production.
