Diverging AI Skills Threaten Workforce Balance, PwC Finds

According to PwC's 2026 Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey, a growing divide in AI skills is emerging within the global workforce. AI usage has risen 10 points, but access to learning resources has decreased by 8 points. This gap leaves 56% of workers without necessary development resources, while AI-savvy employees are more secure and trusting of management.

Nearly a third of 'front-runner' employees with AI expertise are considering changing jobs in the next year. Meanwhile, cost-of-living pressures have intensified, with only a third of workers able to save money by month's end.

Pete Brown, PwC's Global Workforce Leader, emphasizes that leaders must invest in skills development for all employees to ensure a balanced and adaptable workforce as AI continues to be widely integrated into work processes.
