One of the World's Largest Offshore Converter Stations Sets Sail for Guangdong

On July 7, 2026, a 25,000-ton offshore converter station commenced its journey from Nantong, China, heading towards Guangdong Province. Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), this massive structure stands 43 meters tall with an impressive seven-deck design. It is a key component of China's first ±500 kV land-sea integrated HVDC transmission project.

The station is set to reach its destination in deep-sea waters near Yangjiang, about 100 kilometers off the coast. Once operational, it will handle 2 GW of wind power generated at sea, transmitting electricity through a 300-kilometer submarine cable to the mainland grid. The facility aims to deliver approximately 6 billion kWh of clean energy annually to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, reducing carbon emissions significantly.

ZPMC utilized an innovative onshore assembly and float-over installation method, streamlining the process and enhancing safety. The company has positioned itself as a leader in offshore converter solutions, underscoring its influence in the global offshore wind market.
