NRJ Group loses its national FM license in Sweden
On February 18, 2026, the Swedish Media Authority announced that NRJ Group would not be granted the renewal of its national FM license. This decision will take effect on August 1, 2026, threatening NRJ's national presence in Sweden. However, NRJ Group is preparing to apply for future regional FM licenses, following the expected allocation in spring 2026.
This loss is unexpected given the projected audience growth in 2025, unique among commercial radio stations. NRJ hopes to maintain its presence in the country by focusing on regional broadcasting. With 1.5 million weekly listeners, NRJ Group remains committed to continuing to influence the Swedish radio landscape.
NRJ continues its strategy of diversification and adaptation in a competitive sector, emphasizing the diversity and accessibility of its content.
