Nordic Semiconductor Introduces Power-Efficient Edge AI for IoT Devices

Nordic Semiconductor has unveiled its new nRF54L Series System on a Chip (SoC) featuring the Axon Neural Processing Unit (NPU), designed to enhance AI capabilities on IoT devices with exceptional power efficiency. This innovation aims to integrate high-level AI intelligence in even the smallest battery-powered devices, enhancing energy efficiency and usability for developers globally.

The nRF54LM20B SoC offers significant upgrades, including a large memory capacity and ultra-low-power consumption. It features the Axon NPU for demanding AI tasks such as sound classification and image-based detection, delivering up to seven times faster performance and up to eight times higher energy efficiency compared to previous models.

Nordic's Edge AI Lab supports these advancements by offering tools for developers to create custom AI models, promoting privacy and real-time processing without reliance on the cloud. The Neuton models, known for their compact size, are integral to this process, facilitating advanced AI implementation in various fields, from wearables to industrial applications.
