Aurubis Completes Major Modernization at Bulgarian Plant

Aurubis AG has successfully completed a significant modernization project at its Bulgarian site, marking the largest such effort in three decades. The overhaul, costing approximately €115 million, was executed on schedule and within budget. This initiative involved 120 coordinated measures, securing long-term operational excellence and extending the plant's maintenance cycle from two to three years.

Key updates include the complete renovation of the flash smelter and the replacement of major components, enhancing efficiency and stability. The improvements aim to optimize environmental performance with new electrostatic precipitators. Additionally, the sulfuric acid production unit underwent its most comprehensive upgrade since the early 2000s.

This modernization effort forms part of the "Investment for Progress. Bulgaria 2027" program, which also aims to boost tankhouse capacity, expand solar parks, and further optimize slag and water treatment systems, advancing Aurubis' sustainability goals and its global smelting network.
