Network-1 Files Patent Infringement Suit Against Samsung
Network-1 Technologies, Inc. has initiated a patent litigation against Samsung Electronics Co., LTD and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, accuses Samsung of infringing several patents related to eSIM and 5G technologies within its mobile devices, including Galaxy smartphones, watches, and tablets.
The patents in question are part of Network-1's M2M/IoT portfolio, acquired in 2017, covering technologies for authenticating eSIM usage in IoT and other mobile devices. This portfolio, expected to be patent-protected until 2033-2034, is available for licensing, notably for firms utilizing eSIM and 5G technologies.
A 2024 report from the Trusted Connectivity Alliance noted significant growth in the eSIM ecosystem, with over 500 million eSIM-enabled devices shipped.
