NanoViricides Initiates Clinical Trial for NV-387 to Combat Ebola in DRC

NanoViricides, Inc. announces the launch of a Phase II clinical trial for its oral drug NV-387 in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to combat the expanding Ebola outbreak. The trial will start next week at an Ebola Treatment Center in Ituri province. The Bundibugyo virus, with no current treatment, presents a significant health threat with a crude fatality rate of 48%.

NV-387, an orally administered antiviral, is unique in this trial compared to therapies requiring infusions, which are impractical in the resource-limited regions. Previous animal studies suggest NV-387's superiority over intravenously administered Remdesivir.

The current outbreak has rapidly become the largest on record, with over 7,000 confirmed cases. This situation underscores the urgent need for efficient treatments like NV-387. The trial aims to assess NV-387's efficacy, offering hope for reducing the high fatality rate and controlling virus spread.
