NanoViricides Reports Positive Progress in Phase II Ebola Trial
NanoViricides, Inc. announced that the Phase IIA clinical trial for NV-387, an oral gummy treatment for Ebola, is advancing well in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The trial evaluates various dosage regimens for different Ebola severity stages. The focus is on patients in the "Wet Stage" exhibiting severe symptoms, as less severe patients generally do not seek immediate treatment.
The trial aims to assess NV-387's safety and tolerability, with treatment ranging from six to twelve days. Although the trial is not statistically powered to demonstrate efficacy, an efficacy signal may emerge if NV-387 proves highly effective in up to 20 subjects.
While current Ebola strains show high fatality rates, NV-387 has the potential to impact pandemic preparedness due to its broad-spectrum antiviral properties. Following a successful Phase IIA, NanoViricides plans a more extensive Phase IIB trial to evaluate NV-387's effectiveness further.
