Details on NanoViricides' Phase II Trial for Ebola Treatment
As the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) reaches a dire stage, NanoViricides, Inc. has disclosed more information on its Phase II trial of NV-387 oral gummies targeting Ebola viruses. The trial, divided into two phases, commenced enrollment for Phase IIA in late September. The primary goal is to identify a suitable dosing regimen that patients can tolerate. While Phase IIA will not statistically evaluate efficacy, the findings will inform Phase IIB, a randomized trial designed to measure treatment effectiveness.
NanoViricides' NV-387 has been engineered to reduce viral loads by targeting virus-host interactions, a strategy believed to be more durable against viral mutations. The current outbreak, dominated by the Bundibugyo Ebolavirus, has alarmingly resulted in over 4,000 deaths, intensifying the need for effective treatments. With the outbreak escalating in Nord Kivu province, effective solutions like NV-387, if successful, could provide vital relief, especially in resource-constrained settings.
