NanoViricides Advances NV-387 for Measles Amid Rising Cases

NanoViricides, Inc. is progressing with its NV-387 drug candidate as measles cases rise globally. In the US, confirmed measles cases have increased to 2,903 by August 2026, compared to 2,289 for the entire 2025. Globally, countries, notably Bangladesh with 99 fatalities, are witnessing similar trends despite aggressive vaccination.

NV-387 distinguishes itself by addressing the lack of approved measles treatments, showing promising in vivo results. Currently, NanoViricides is preparing a Phase II trial protocol for US FDA review. The drug also received "Rare Pediatric Disease Drug" designation, enabling priority review vouchers that may offer significant commercial opportunities.

This development underscores the necessity for effective measles treatment, especially in the face of vaccine hesitancy and breakthrough cases. These efforts align with broader health initiatives aiming to mitigate the impact of infectious diseases worldwide.
