NRCan Grants $3 Million to Nano One for LFP Cathode Supply Chain Initiative

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has awarded $3 million to Nano One Materials Corp. The funding is part of NRCan’s Energy Innovation Program, aimed at supporting the optimization and scaled-up production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials. This initiative will utilize various iron input sources to enhance supply chain resilience and economic regionalization.

The project involves collaboration with Sumitomo Metal Mining for technical development and validation. Nano One’s patented One-Pot process allows cost-effective input of alternative iron feedstock, vital for supply chain diversification. LFP, a critical material for lithium-ion batteries, is primarily sourced from China. By enhancing raw material sourcing locally, the company seeks to bolster supply chain stability across sectors like defense, energy storage, and electric vehicles.
