Money and holiday spending: a study by Bank Cler

A recent study by Bank Cler reveals that 44% of the Swiss population exceeds their holiday budget. Despite careful planning, 62% of Swiss people spend more on vacation than they do on a typical day. Holidays remain a priority for 94% of Swiss residents, with a strong preference for summer travel, often abroad.

Some regional differences are noted: French-speaking Swiss take longer vacations and spend around CHF 2,700, compared to CHF 2,300 for German-speaking Swiss. This pattern highlights a deliberate approach to financial management, although 14% of respondents admitted to overdrawing their accounts to finance their holidays.

The study also reveals that young people aged 18 to 29 are more likely to exceed their budgets than those over 50. The main unexpected expenses include dining out, shopping, and excursions.
