Mintos Initiates Move for ECB Banking Licence
Mintos, a European investment platform, has begun the process to acquire a banking licence from the European Central Bank (ECB). This step is part of Mintos' strategy to boost investor confidence and enhance its financial infrastructure in Europe.
Initially founded as a peer-to-peer lending marketplace, Mintos has transformed into a regulated platform, offering services to 700,000 investors and handling €800 million in assets. In recent years, Mintos expanded into fractional bonds, ETF portfolios, and real estate investments.
Securing a banking licence would enable Mintos to offer deposit-based funding and new banking products. It includes a potential deposit protection of up to €100,000, bolstering investor trust and supporting growth. The process is expected to take 12 to 18 months, dependent on regulatory approvals.
