Marinomed Biotech AG Faces Restructuring Amid Negotiation Breakdown

On July 20, 2026, Marinomed Biotech AG announced its intention to begin court-supervised restructuring proceedings without self-administration. This decision follows unsuccessful negotiations with Unither, the partner that acquired Marinomed's Carragelose business in February 2025. The breakdown has placed Marinomed at risk of insolvency. The company has yet to receive anticipated earn-out payments from this sale, which were intended to fund repayments of up to €15 million to its main creditor, the European Investment Bank (EIB).

Marinomed faces immediate financial challenges with debts of €1.45 million due in November 2026 and €2.37 million due in May 2027, totaling €3.8 million. If these liquidity issues are addressed, the company could potentially support its operations through its expanding compounding business and Budesolv licensing opportunities. Although the current scenario represents a setback, the restructuring might leverage the company's position after the collapse of Unither negotiations. Analyst Alexander Rihane of First Berlin Equity Research has placed Marinomed's rating and target price under review, pending further clarity.
