Malta's FIAU Enhances AML/CFT Efforts and Engagement in 2025

The Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit (FIAU) of Malta has released its 2025 Annual Report, showcasing a year of strategic enhancements focusing on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) preparedness. The report emphasizes institutional strengthening and increased international cooperation to combat financial crimes.

In 2025, FIAU advanced its alignment with the evolving European AML/CFT framework, including preparations for the EU's Anti-Money Laundering Authority and the 6th Directive. The report highlights the appointment of FIAU Director Alfred Zammit as Vice-Chair of MONEYVAL, bolstering Malta's international presence.

The operational achievements include processing 10,721 suspicious transaction reports and introducing 71 enforcement measures. Additionally, the launch of the Settlement Process in 2026 aims to enhance enforcement outcomes.
