Lupaka Gold Corp. Seeks Enforcement of Arbitration Award
Lupaka Gold Corp., based in Vancouver, is making progress in enforcing a significant arbitration award. This follows an award granted on June 30, 2025, favoring the company in a claim against the Republic of Peru. Lupaka has initiated enforcement proceedings in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, with plans to extend these efforts into other jurisdictions.
The arbitration, filed under the Canada-Peru Free Trade Agreement, addressed a dispute over mining investments. With no annulment request post-award, Peru faces mounting interest payments, now totaling about USD 68.6 million.
Lupaka's CEO, Gordon Ellis, expressed disappointment over Peru's non-compliance, emphasizing potential reputational risks for Peru in the mining sector. As interest accumulates, Lupaka is poised to attach Peruvian assets in the U.S. to secure payment.
