Leclanché receives EU funding for gigafactory
Leclanché SA has been selected to receive a grant from the EU Innovation Fund. This financial support is part of a €852 million package to promote six European electric vehicle battery manufacturing projects. The project involves the expansion of Leclanché's production site in Willstätt, Germany. It aims to produce water-based, PFAS-free lithium-ion cells. This initiative has been recognized for its high quality by independent experts.
This progress is part of a broader EU strategy to reduce dependence on imports and support clean and resilient battery production. Next steps include finalizing the grant agreement with CINEA by the third quarter of 2025. The project is expected to start in January 2026.
