Julius Meinl Partners to Develop Climate-Smart Coffee Region in Honduras

Julius Meinl, along with The J.M. Smucker Co., Tchibo, and the Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung foundation, has launched a joint project to establish a Climate-Smart Coffee Region (CSCR) in Western Honduras. The initiative aims to enhance smallholder livelihoods, restore ecosystems, and strengthen local institutional capacity across Ocotepeque, Copán, and Lempira over a four-year period. Around 4,000 smallholder families will benefit from the project, impacting 6,000 hectares of coffee land and engaging 20 farmer organizations.

The project will leverage the knowledge from the coffee&climate initiative, employing climate adaptation techniques such as soil conservation and agroforestry. It aims to transform the region into biodiversity-friendly and climate-smart systems. Financial literacy, women's leadership, and youth entrepreneurship are additional focus areas. The project will be monitored using frameworks like Enveritas to ensure transparency and adaptive learning.
