Jaguar Health Seeks Full FDA Approval for Canine Diarrhea Drug
Jaguar Health, Inc. has completed its New Animal Drug Application submission to the FDA for crofelemer, branded as Canalevia-CA1, aimed at treating chemotherapy-induced diarrhea (CID) in dogs. Currently, this drug is conditionally approved.
The company's effectiveness study indicated that Canalevia-CA1, administered twice daily, helped dogs achieve normal stool consistency within three days. Furthermore, 77% of survey participants reported improvements, and 40% noted a complete resolution of CID symptoms in their pets.
The study focused on dogs undergoing chemotherapy, a treatment increasingly prevalent in veterinary medicine. The research highlights the necessity of treatments for CID, with half of surveyed veterinarians noting CID impacts chemotherapy plans.
While Canalevia is not an antibiotic, it offers a non-infectious diarrhea solution in dogs, addressing a prevalent issue without contributing to antibiotic resistance.
